The opening of this story harked back to the X File like tones that made “Day of the Clown” and the latest series of Torchwood so enjoyable to watch, in that it presents the viewer with a chilling mystery and makes you wonder what is going on.
The writing out of Sarah Jane herself gives an easy excuse to move the focus onto the fantastic Clyde who may well have out acted everyone else on the show this series. Focusing both on the anger of a young man left behind, and of the child wanting to impress Dad.
I do wonder if the finale will again focus on who Luke is, maybe giving him a choice at some point about who he wants to be with. His “parents” or Sarah Jane?
The slow build up did pay off in a chilling finale, which led in nicely to an at times emotional second part with some fantastic father son dynamics between Clyde and his father.
Special mention does need to be paid to the few surprises of the episode such as the return of the Maria and Alan Jackson, mention of UNIT, and the sight of the Trickster in next weeks episode!!!!!
I’ve just got back from setting up a BT Homehub at my parents place, and I have to say the wireless part of it was a nightmare it seemed to take an age for one of the computers to connect to it. I have no idea why…but it was just a nightmare…
Well he’s leaving. Theres not much to say about that. Maybe the right time for someone new? But he will be very missed. He has been fantastic.
To quote David when he made his announcement to the National Television Awards. :
“Now don’t make me cry,” he added. “I love this part, and I love this show so much that if I don’t take a deep breath and move on now I never will, and you’ll be wheeling me out of the Tardis in my bath chair.”
Well afterthe creep fest that was “The Day of the clown”, it was always going to be hard to live up to the story that had gone before it, and that did show in a comparatively dull first part - excluding the first meeting during Sarah Jane and Trumen during his show, but it was nothing original.
I surpose the whole first part was just a hge setup to the fantastic finale. Mr Smith repeating “Nothing is happening” added a feel of dread that compares to the Silence in the Library finish. The second part was more like it - more action packed, and less silly science that dulled the first part.
